Titanite Meaning 
This mineral goes by two mineral names. Originally it was known as Sphene until 1982 when it was changed to Titanite. Its name derives from the titanium composition of this mineral. 

Titanite has the capacity to exhibit dichroism. This means that the hue of colours change with exposure to light.
